The New Orleans coroner's office has identified a man who was killed in a shooting in the 7000 block of Yorktown Drive on Tuesday that left at least four others wounded. Correy Harris, 23, died from his wounds when he arrived at Interim LSU Public Hospital, said John Gagliano, the coroner's chief investigator.

Police say that three men opened gunfire on the victims in eastern New Orleans about 7:20 p.m. Paramedics subsequently took two 28-year-old men, a 23-year-old man, and a 24-year-old man to the hospital with non-critical injuries, New Orleans EMS spokesman Jeb Tate added.

Officials originally said there were a total of six victims in the shooting. But on Wednesday, an NOPD log of major offenses investigated overnight shows there were five victims.

One of the surviving victims was shot in the chest, and paramedics transported him to the emergency room in guarded condition. The others that ambulance crews took to the hospital were in stable condition.

Officers recovered a weapon on the scene. No other details have been made available.

All told, there were at least 12 people shot in various incidents on Monday and Tuesday nights. Police investigated five separate shootings around New Orleans on Monday that left six people wounded. On Tuesday, in addition to the violence on Yorktown Drive, a 30-year-old man was shot in the chest and stomach as he sat inside his vehicle in the 2500 block of North Galvez Street about 8 p.m.

Police have not said whether they have any suspects or motives in the various attacks. They ask anyone with information about these crimes to call Crimestoppers at 504.822.1111 or toll-free at 877.903.7867.

People can also text tips to C-R-I-M-E-S (274637); text TELLCS and then the crime information. Callers or texters do not have to give their names or testify and can earn a $2,500 reward for information that leads to an indictment.

Update: A police spokesman on Tuesday said there were a total of six victims shot on Yorktown Drive. However, on Wednesday, an NOPD log of major incidents investigated overnight indicates there were five victims, four who survived and one who died. This article has been modified to reflect that information. Also, an earlier version of the article incorrectly stated the dead victim's last name was Hill. In fact, it is Harris.
