Sony Announced PlayStation 4!

Feb 21, 2013

Yesterday, Sony hosted a live press conference online and announced that they will be bringing in the PlayStation 4 as their entry into the next generation of gaming. The new console is due to come out during the winter holiday season this year!

Similar to how Nintendo's Wii U is a fairly simple improvement on the Nintendo Wii, the PlayStation 4 seems to be a fairly straightforward upgrade on the PlayStation 3. The processor is more powerful, sixteen times moreso than the PlayStation 3, allowing for amazing graphics and realistic characters faces.

Also similar to the Wii U is the new controller being introduced with the PlayStation 4. The DualShock 4 will have the familiar button layout and rumble that you are used to, but will also include a touch pad in the middle, a share button, and a headphone jack. Also included is a light bar that will track your controller movement similar to the PlayStation Move, meaning motion control is built into the PlayStation 4! If you are worried about sharing the TV, Sony also provides a solution with the PS Vita, allowing live streaming straight to the handle. Sony has stated that their goal is to have every single PlayStation 4 title be playable on the Vita as well.

Missing in Action?

Strangely missing from all this excitement is the actual console itself. Sony has decided to not release any pictures of the console, perhaps to save something to show for this year's E3. Meanwhile, developers, such as Capcom and Quantic Dreams, have demos up already, showing that they already have their hands on the new technology and are making games for the new console. Unfortunately, the PlayStation 4 will not have backwards compatibility with PlayStation 3 games. However, Sony will be introducing the PlayStation Cloud, which will allow streaming access to old games.
